15 Things to Do As Soon as Your Website is Done

After website is done, how to market

Many counselors, coaches, psychologists, social workers and other solopreneurs who have a website built feel as though the work is done when the website is finished. Even if you didn’t personally build your site, you might think that you can now sit back, relax, and virtually ignore the site.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

A website is a newborn baby. It needs care and feeding on a frequent basis for it to thrive as a marketing tool for you. Your immediate job -- once your website is done -- is to start generating traffic to it. Without your multiple, overt efforts, Google is likely to ignore the site no matter how well your website creator has done the on-page SEO.

This is why, when I build a Wix site for you, I usually finish up with a training for you on how to use the editing tools so you can blog, add new pages and photos, and change content on your own from that point on. And why I keep posting new how-to articles in the Client Locker of the DeWriteSites website.

The best thing you can do for your website and your private practice, is to be on a launch campaign for the first month after your website is done. Here’s what that could look like:

  • Connect the site to your locator profiles

  • Announce site on Facebook and LinkedIn, give url

  • Post/promote every pre-existing blogs on Facebook and LinkedIn

  • Announce site on Google+ and Twitter if you Tweet, give url

  • Post /promote every pre-existing blogs on Google+ and Twitter

  • Send email to your friends and family, ask them to go look

  • If you already have a business e-list, announce to your list

  • Google your keywords+ location+name several times a day

Those initial 8 steps will serve you best if you do them within the first week of the completion of your website.

A tip – post /promote one pre-existing blog per day to social media. Don’t promote them all at once, or post the general link to the main blog page.

Instead, for best response, post each blog separately a day apart, and provide the link to the individual blog page that shows just that one blog. Just click on the title of a blog entry, then copy the url from the browser bar, and past it into your social media post.

After or during the first week, it will be helpful if you begin thinking about and doing some of these additional 7 marketing actions:

  • Ask clients what they’d like you to blog about

  • Blog more than once a week for a month, then weekly

  • Write a free special report, available on request only

  • Add a video or Powtoons

  • Do video blogs

  • Think of new pages to add* and add them

  • Make it part of your marketing plan to add to your website every month

If you will think of your website as the center of your marketing department, it’s easier to use it effectively. Feed it the nourishment it needs to be out there in cyberspace doing its job for you.
