Four years ago people in a position to know started talking about SEO dying. Or, at least, about the death of the idea that there were magical techie things that would guarantee first page placement on search engines for your website. Pete Prestipino outlined the problem and solution in Give Up the SEO Dream?
A lot has happened since Prestipino's article in Website Magazine. His advice is still valid. But there are still scam outfits out there trawling the web, contacting small website owners out of the blue, making bogus claims about Google's page one ranking. Don't believe it. Read this article instead.
Bottom line is, if you are hoping for tricks that will drive people to your website, forget it. The legitimate rules keep changing and it's silly to keep trying to meet the demand of the latest SEO whims when they change every few months. You can fool yourself with analytics into believing that you are in control but it's an illusion.
The more sure bet is to focus your efforts on writing quality content and then cultivting a readership within your niche audience with social media.
But okay, yeah, some on page search engine optimization is helpful. Here's what you DO want to take care of -- and you can do it yourself:
Use good keywords in page names
Use strong keywords in meta tag title and description
Use H1 and H2 tags in content page titles and subheads
Use the alt tags on all photos
Use keyword tags and categories for blog posts
Run the Wix Get Found wizard and make adjustments
Have a keyword rich domain name
Make daily use of at least 1 social media account to promote your website
Blog at least once a week
Offer downloadable giveaway information products
install videos to your homepage and in blogs
These are the basics of marketing on the internet. Make it relevant and significant for your specific niche audience, and made that niche obvious in all your content. These points are unlikely to suffer from Google's whims.
